Summer. Hymenoxys hoopesii puts on quite a show in high mountain meadows bordered by Picea engelmannii and dotted with Penstemon whipplei (the dark purple in lower center and several other places), Ligularia bigelovii (the tight, spherical flower heads just to the left of the Penstemon and also dotting the entire meadow), Achillea lanulosa (white Yarrow), Ligusticum porteri (white and tall at the back right), and Castilleja miniata (Red Paintbrush in the back middle). |

Summer. Thousands of Hymenoxys hoopesii flow with Delphinium barbeyi down a thousand foot long soil-covered scree fan at 11,700 feet in the upper Mill Creek Basin below Mount Sneffels. |
